15 minute revision activities

Did you know 15 minutes is just over 1% of each day? One of students’ biggest issues is that they don’t have time to fit in all their revision. 15-minute time slots are much easier to accommodate that longer time slots and these can be added to existing revision plans to boost effectiveness. Who doesn’t have 15 minutes spare in a day? Adding 15-minute revision slots to the day can often have much greater impact than longer periods of solid study where concentration may wane and information stops going in.

Here are some ideas of 15-minute revision activities for students:

  • Make a syllabus mind map for a subject to gauge understanding and check what has been covered and where there is still more work to do

  • Test yourself against a timer using a set of flashcards (either ones you have made yourself, or ones you have bought)

  • Listen to quotes from English literature texts you have recorded on your phone

  • Go over a past paper you have already done and marked and see if you can understand the questions you got wrong

  • Watch a short YouTube video on a topic

  • Create a memory story for a list you need to remember

  • Organise your folders for each subject and make sure they are separated into different topics

  • Practice reproducing a diagram you need to learn

  • Make post-it notes for vocabulary you need to learn

  • Make an essay plan using a mind map

  • Use memrise.com to memorise vocabulary

  • Read through your notes for the day’s lessons

  • Find an article online to read about a particular topic

  • Make a mind map on a topic

  • Create a mnemonic for a list you need to learn

  • Ask a family member or friend to test you on a topic
